Keep Moving Forward with AI · Michael Nyegaard ← Back to the build log

The honest stack · updated 13 October 2026

Everything I use, what it costs, and what I’d skip.

I’m not a programmer. This is every tool behind this build log, with what I actually pay for it and what bugs me about it.

Some links below are affiliate links. Some of the tools I rely on most pay me nothing. They’re here anyway, because this list is about what I use — not about what pays.

Links marked * are affiliate links: I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never decides what goes on this list. If I stop using something, it comes off.

01 · Think and buildWhere the work happens

If you only take one thing from this page, take this one. Everything else is optional.

Claude

every day · the core
I use it for
Everything I build: this site, the kit, my emails, my video scripts. I use Claude Code on my own folders — without writing code.
Costs me
€22.50 a month (Pro plan, paid monthly, incl. Danish VAT).
The catch
A new chat forgets everything. That’s the whole reason I built my folder system — the AI was fine, nothing held anything.
Skip it if
You already use ChatGPT daily and it works for you. The system matters more than the brand.

02 · Talk instead of typeMost of my work starts out loud

I think best while walking, driving or cooking. These two turn that into text Claude can work with. It’s the heart of the free 2-Hour Voice Workflow.

Pocket

every day · voice notes
I use it for
A small recorder I talk into. It transcribes and summarises, and Claude reads the result. Most ideas on this site started as a Pocket note.
Costs me
About $100 for the device, once (I bought it on offer). The Pro plan is about 150 DKK a month (≈ $23).
The catch
One more device to charge and carry, and the Pro plan is a subscription on top of the device.
Skip it if
You rarely think out loud. The voice memo app on your phone gets you halfway for free.

Wispr Flow

every day · dictation
I use it for
Talking to Claude instead of typing. I speak, it writes clean text into whatever window I’m in.
Costs me
About 179 DKK a month (≈ $28). The basic Pro plan is listed at $15 a month — start there.
The catch
It’s a subscription for something your computer can partly do for free. The built-in dictation is worse, but it costs nothing.
Skip it if
You type fast and like typing.

03 · VideoOnly because I make video

My videos use an AI clone of my own voice and an AI version of me. It’s always labelled. If you don’t make video, skip this whole section.

ElevenLabs

the voice in my videos
I use it for
A clone of my own voice, made from old videos of me talking. It reads my scripts so I don’t have to record every take.
Costs me
$22/month (Creator plan, first month was $11). Before it renews I’ll check if the cheaper Starter plan is enough.
The catch
My clone still has a little room echo. It sounds like me — in a slightly bigger room.
Skip it if
You’re happy to record your own voice. That’s free, and it’s more you.

HeyGen

the AI version of me
I use it for
The labelled AI version of me in my videos, so I can make a video without being in front of a camera every week.
Costs me
€25/month (Creator plan, paid monthly so I can stop any time).
The catch
It looks good, but it isn’t me. That’s why every video starts with real footage and says clearly what’s AI.
Skip it if
You’re comfortable on camera. Real beats a clone.

Envato Elements

music, footage, photos
I use it for
Background music, sound effects and some of the photos on this site (they’re labelled “stock photo”).
Costs me
€174/year (≈ €14.50/month, paid yearly).
The catch
Every download needs a licence registered to a project, and it’s easy to tag it with the wrong one.
Skip it if
You only need a few tracks. Free libraries will do.

04 · Publish and sellThe boring part that costs nothing

The site you’re on, the Sunday email and the kit. All on free plans.

Cloudflare

this website
I use it for
Hosting kmfmn.com, and counting visits without cookies. It’s plain pages with no database.
Costs me
$0 for hosting. The domain itself is a yearly fee.
The catch
The dashboard is built for developers. I needed Claude to walk me through it.
Skip it if
You want a drag-and-drop site builder.

Brevo

the Sunday email
I use it for
The newsletter and the email that sends you the free workflow the moment you confirm.
Costs me
$0 (free plan, up to 300 emails a day).
The catch
Some features stayed locked until I’d filled in my full account profile, and it took a support ticket to find that out.
Skip it if
You don’t have a list yet. Get one person to sign up first.

Gumroad

where the kit is sold
I use it for
Selling The Operator’s System, my $39 kit.
Costs me
$0 a month. They take 10% + $0.50 per sale.
The catch
That cut adds up. And you can’t publish anything until you’ve set up payouts.
Skip it if
You have nothing to sell yet. Don’t build the shop before the product.

05 · MindsetThe tool that wasn’t software

My projects didn’t drift because of the tools. They drifted because I kept starting over. This is what I used to work on that part.

NeuroGym

paid member 2023–24
I used it for
Their Brain-A-Thon and the membership after it — working on the habits behind starting over, before I built the folder system.
Cost me
A paid membership in 2023–24. I don’t pay for it today.
The catch
A lot of their marketing talks about money and earning more. I don’t make that promise, and neither should you. Pick a program for the habit, not the headline.
Skip it if
You haven’t tried finishing one small thing first. That costs nothing.

06 · What I’d skipThings I paid for and stopped using

This list is shorter than it should be. I’ll add to it as I go.

The tools are the easy part.

What made me finish things was a place for the work to live. The free workflow shows how I use the voice tools. The kit is the whole folder system.
